Competenz expands on-the-job training offering
PaMPITO merging into Competenz
High performing industry training organisation (ITO) Competenz, has announced its intention to merge with the Plastics and Materials Processing Industry Training Organisation (PaMPITO).
The Minister of Tertiary Education formally approved the merger on the 18th of September and it will go ahead on 1 October 2013.
Competenz Chairman Mike Simm says the merger makes strategic sense for both organisations and reduces duplication in the sector for the benefit of business owners.
“PaMPITO shares a number of synergies with Competenz and we are pleased that its Board has recognised the logical fit and mutual benefits the merger represents. By simplifying systems and reducing duplication of services across the industry we are helping to remove barriers to industry training to the benefit of both learners and businesses.”
“As a multi-sector ITO with scale and expertise in manufacturing, engineering, food & beverage and transport skills development, Competenz is able to bring to the merger significant benefits for businesses and trainees, based on the strength of our national network of account managers and focus on customer service,” says Mr Simm.
The merger follows the February release of the Ministry of Education’s Industry Training Review, and aligns with the Government’s view that consolidation of ITOs will create a more cohesive vocational education system.
All existing services offered by PaMPITO will be retained, and will benefit from greater back-of-house efficiencies and the ability to benefit from Competenz’s e-learning system.
Competenz will increase its gazetted industry coverage to include manufacturing in plastics, pharmaceuticals, glass, paint and coatings, apparel and textiles as well as the laundry and dry cleaning industry. They will take over the lease on PaMPTIO’s Manukau premises, adding this to their nationwide network of 12 offices. A specialist Strategy and Integration team led by General Manager Fiona Kingsford will ensure a smooth transition under the Competenz banner.
The merger will be the third for Competenz since December 2012, after successfully integrating Retail Meat ITO and forestry training organisation FITEC into its operation.
Mr Simm says the merger is a positive step for all parties involved.
“Competenz is committed to making New Zealand businesses more competitive, with skilled and productive staff, and this merger forms an important part of that goal. We are looking forward to working alongside and continuing the close relationships with those organisations and learners who have been well represented by PaMPITO in the past.”
