Irrigation experts now online

Irrigators and irrigation schemes wanting to fast-track repairs and access specialist advice following this month’s big wind can now access an online directory of experts at www.irrigationschemes.co.nz

IrrigationNZ developed the directory after successfully applying for funding from the Ministry of Primary Industries to build a database of experts focussing on irrigation.

“The online directory will help build capability and improve access to information. In the aftermath of the big storm, it’s even more important that irrigators and irrigation schemes can quickly source expert guidance to minimise consequences and get the season underway. The directory will also assist irrigation scheme managers looking to plan for infrastructure development,” says IrrigationNZ CEO Andrew Curtis.

IrrigationNZ compiled the directory after asking industry experts and service providers a series of questions about their relevant skills, experience and qualifications.

Experts have been divided into five categories to make it easier to browse. These include irrigation consultants, on-farm irrigation, data management, irrigation scheme infrastructure and finance. Close to 40 providers are now contactable via the website and the directory is expected to grow quickly as new experts and specialist providers come on board.

“We’re very excited about the directory as it will improve the transfer of information from professionals to those on the ground managing irrigation. Having a central database which brings industry specialists together will make it easier for irrigators and the managers of irrigation schemes to quickly access the support they need,” says Mr Curtis.

IrrigationNZ is the national body representing irrigators and the irrigation industry. Its mission is to promote excellence in irrigation throughout New Zealand.
