New Concept Cinema Creates 30 New Jobs for Waikato
A new cinema experience, the first of its type in the country, will launch in Hamilton this week, providing 30 jobs for locals and serving up a unique concept in movie dining and entertainment.
Hoyts General Manager of Operations, Matthew Garelli, says the company’s new Hamilton movie theatre, Metro by Hoyts, offers five digital cinemas and a renewed focus on the culinary experience while movie-watching.
The new theatre, due to open next week, will include a range of American-themed diner-style food options that movie-goers can enjoy in the cinema.
Garelli says he is thrilled the premium new theatre will help boost the Waikato economy by generating 30 new local jobs.
“We’re delighted to be able to enhance employment opportunities for the community with the launch of our new cinema, while also delivering an increased offering to movie-goers,” he says.
“We’re confident the Waikato region will love the new diner-style menu of gourmet hot dogs, chilli fries, nachos, buckets of beer and glasses of wine, along with our traditional candy bars snacks.”
Garelli says the new theatre looks unlike any other in the country.
“It looks like your favourite movie house blended with a New York City Street. We’ve created an urban and laidback space with chill-out zones in the foyer to provide the highest level of comfort possible,” he says.
“We felt Hamilton was a fantastic place to launch this look, given its increasing popularity as a destination to visit, along with its growing local population,” says Garelli.
Metro by Hoyts will trial a new ‘no disturbance policy’ – an initiative which could be rolled out in Hoyts theatres nationwide, says Garelli.
The policy will mean latecomers won’t be let into theatres once the main feature starts, along with movie-goers being asked to leave if they are being excessively noisy or using their phones to talk, text or tweet during a film.
Metro by Hoyts, is situated at Centre Place shopping centre in Hamilton and will open on Monday, September 30. The new theatre will offer late night screenings on Fridays and Saturdays.
