NZ Infrastructure advocate enthusiastic about visit

Press release 25 October 2013

NZ Infrastructure advocate enthusiastic about visit of Northern Irish construction companies

Six Northern Irish construction industry companies are visiting New Zealand in November. It will be the first time that Invest Northern Ireland (INI) has brought a delegation to NZ with the companies interested to meet up with potential collaborators and industry leaders.

Stephen Selwood, CEO, NZ Council for Infrastructure Development, believes the visit offers opportunities for NZ to hear about innovations that compliment traditional construction techniques.

Selwood says, “It is about looking at new ways of thinking and delivery methods not currently used in NZ, but which are popular and successful in Northern Ireland. The traditional way of constructing houses, house by house is not keeping up with demand and the UK has experience of providing the larger scale housing projects.”

The visiting companies are keen to learn about the New Zealand market and are looking to set up joint ventures as well as distribution outlets for their construction products and services. The six companies specialize in ventilation system design, architectural metalwork and design, new build turnkey construction, specialist joinery, mechanical and electrical engineering, and cost consultancy services.

UK Trade & Investment are hosting the delegation, please contact Hamish Jenkin on 09 303 5014 or email hamish.jenkin@fco.gov.uk for further details and to arrange a meeting.
