New appointments to help drive growth at Construkt

Award-winning architecture and masterplanning practice Construkt has appointed seven new staff.

Construkt director David Gibbs says the appointments will help the firm take advantage of new growth opportunities, particularly in Auckland.

“The new appointments are a welcome addition to the practice; they bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to complement our existing team. Here in Auckland, the new Unitary Plan and Special Housing Areas initiatives will be big drivers of growth for us and, with the new team on board, we’re looking forward to the future with a lot of confidence.”

Construkt has been recognised with numerous awards for its work; most recently the NZ Institute of Architects awarded it the Planning and Urban Design award for its part in the Sunderland Precinct Comprehensive Development Plan at Hobsonville Point.

Details of the appointments are:

Russell Cannons is a new Principal. He is a registered architect with over 20 years’ experience, including 10 years in private practice. Russell has a track record in a broad range of projects including sporting facilities, hospitality fit outs, office design, and residential ranging from standalone housing to multi-unit developments.

Madushin Amarasekera has been appointed as a Principal. He is a registered architect with over 10 years’ experience in small- to large-scale residential, retail and commercial architecture. Madushin has a strong design focus and his experience extends internationally across the Pacific and China where he has been involved in award-winning projects.

Phillip Matz has joined as a Consulting Design Architect. He is an award-winning registered architect and former principal of Matz Architects. Phillip has completed projects though out New Zealand including a multi-level head office for Wakat Incorporation, an 18-room boutique hotel in Queenstown and several resort-style projects in Fiji. In 2013 he received two NZIA awards for his work on housing projects.

Yu-Ning Liu has taken the position of Senior Urban Designer. She has nine years of experience practising urban design in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Yu-Ning has particular skills in spatial planning, context analysis, design guidelines, feasibility studies, and regeneration and revitalisation projects.

Tom Whiteman has joined Construkt as a Senior Architect. With over 15 years of experience in New Zealand and the UK, Tom has particular expertise in designing, documenting and providing contract administration on a range of projects including high-quality one-off houses, multi-unit housing, retail and mixed-use developments.

Brendan Scott-Woods is a Graduate Architect. He has 12 years of architectural experience with origins in commercial and retail design. Brendan has been involved in design and documentation of high-end residential, apartment design and large-scale commercial developments. He was also the competition winner for the Mt Albert town centre urban design proposal.

Richard Taylor is an Architectural Graduate. He has four years architectural experience including two years spent working in Edinburgh, Scotland. Richard is skilled in CAD modelling and visualisation techniques.
