Biggest refund ever uncovered by MyTax.co.nz

An Auckland based businessman has just had a $48,000 tax refund, the biggest that Nelson based online tax company MyTax.co.nz has ever made for a client.

Spokesman for the online tax refund agency, Lester Binns, says the man contacted Mytax because they’d gained his mate a sizeable refund and got a nice surprise when they phoned him: “He was pretty happy…and his partner was pretty happy too. I think she has plans for that money.”

Lester says this refund came about because the man was a non-resident for tax purposes.

“He had been working offshore but paying tax in New Zealand and we were able to get this refunded,” he says. “He has another colleague in a similar situation that he is going to talk too about contacting us to do a refund for him.”

Lester says word is getting out about the advantages of using MyTax.co.nz and he says there could be thousands more New Zealanders due a tax refund this year that they don’t know about.

“Doing your refund directly through the IRD can be difficult and comes with the risk of having to pay tax if you owe anything,” he explains. “MyTax.co.nz totally removes this risk and most people actually have overpaid tax to some degree.”

MyTax.co.nz checks through five years of tax payments at no upfront charge to clients. The average refund uncovered is around five hundred dollars, and a 15 percent fee is paid only if a refund is made.

Any money owed to salary and wage earners sits with IRD and after five years, if it is not refunded, the government reclaims it.
