Service sector activity data remains positive

Media Release
18 November 2013

Service sector activity data remains positive for the Central region

New Zealand’s Central region services sector activity has increased to 52.6 for October on the BNZ-BusinessNZ Performance of Services Index (PSI).

This is an increase from September, rising 0.7 points, and an increase of 3.8 points over the past year.

Business Central Chief Executive Raewyn Bleakley says the increase in service sector activity is positive for the central region.

“We’ve still got a way to go, but to have service sector activity expanding and also be up on the year is certainly encouraging.”

BNZ-BusinessNZ PSI is a monthly survey of the services sector providing an early indicator of activity levels. A PSI reading above 50 points indicates services activity is expanding; below 50 indicates it is contracting.

The National PSI for October was 58.2, up 1.8 points from September and the highest level of activity since November 2007.
