Christchurch shopper scoops top prize
Christchurch man Alan Wohlers is swapping his gardening gloves for driving gloves after winning a brand new car in a nationwide Mitre 10 MEGA contest.
Mr Wohlers bought gardening supplies from the Hornby store, Christchurch to start growing vegetables and entered the Mitre 10 competition to win a brand new 2013 Toyota Highlander.
Now, as well as starting a vegetable garden Mr Wohlers will be starting up the engine on his new Highlander.
“I was a bit shocked to hear I’d won new a new Toyota, it was a bolt from the blue,” said Mr Wohlers. “I can’t believe my luck. It’s one of those things where you don’t believe it will happen to you. Even when Mitre 10 called me - I told them they must have the wrong person because it couldn’t be me.
“I only bought some potting mix and seedlings and now I’ve got a brand new car. When I tell friends, they tell me they also entered the competition. They say things like ‘you’re driving around in my car!’ which makes me laugh. I tell them if they’re nice I might give them a ride in it.”
Mitre 10 MEGA Hornby General Manager Liam Pawson is also delighted with the win.
“We’re stoked for Mr Wohlers. Not only has he won a great prize, but also he’s doing what he calls ‘spreading the love’ with his family. Mr Wohler is giving his current car to a family member, which is a really kind gesture. We love being able to give away such a fantastic prize to such a deserving, down to earth winner.
“Everyone here at Mitre 10 MEGA Hornby is really excited that one of our local shoppers has won the big prize, we’d like to congratulate him and hope he will enjoy his new car. It’s not every day you get to give away a prize like this.”
Mr Wohlers was presented with the vehicle at Mitre 10 MEGA Hornby on November 22 and plans to get back into the veggie garden that won him the prize.
The competition ran throughout the nationwide Mitre 10
MEGA network from September 12 to October 28.
