One New Director, Eight New Shareholders’ Councillors Elected

Today, following the close of voting in the 2013 Fonterra Elections it has been confirmed that one new Director and eight new Shareholders’ Councillors will take office after the Fonterra Annual meeting on Wednesday.

Newly elected Director Michael Spaans and incumbents Malcolm Bailey and Ian Farrelly were the three successful Director candidates.
Fonterra Shareholders’ Council Chairman, Ian Brown said succession was important for the Co-op and having new people with new ideas and fresh enthusiasm at the Board and Council tables was great for Fonterra.

“Our Shareholders have spoken and I would like to welcome Michael to the role and congratulate John and Ian on their re-election.

“The Council will continue to build a strong and effective working relationship with the Board.”
Mr Brown also welcomed the eight new Shareholders’ Councillors:

• Penny Smart - Ward 3 Northern Wairoa                               
• Julie Pirie - Ward 6 Hauraki                                       
• Ross Wallis - Ward 8 Hamilton                                  
• Vaughn Brophy - Ward 21 Coastal Taranaki                        
• Richard Syme - Ward 27 Southern Manawatu                                 
• John Gregan - Ward 32 Southern Canterbury                      
• Ad Bekkers and Ivan Lines - Ward 33 Otago

In addition, incumbents Malcolm Piggot (Ward 9 – Morrinsville), Kevin Monks (Ward 12 – Cambridge), Ian Brown (Ward 15 - South Waikato), Duncan Coull (Ward 18 – Otorohanga) and Ange Ward (Ward 30 - Northern Central Canterbury) were elected unopposed.

“I look forward to working with the new and returning Councillors and trust they will represent their Shareholders and the Council with diligence and integrity.
“I also acknowledge the contribution of our five departing Councillors, Murray Douglas, Bill Donaldson, Nick Barrett, Owen Greig and Grant Scott.”

Mr Brown praised the efforts of Shareholders and thanked them for their participation in the Elections process.

“The health of our Co-op rests with Shareholders and their willingness, as owners of Fonterra, to make informed decisions. 

“Fonterra Farmers value the culture of 100% ownership and control and they continue to demonstrate their commitment to this principle.”
