FIRST Union: Update on Tachikawa situation

November 27, 2013

Update on Tachikawa situation

FIRST Union General Secretary Robert Reid has this afternoon received an assurance from Hancock Forest Management that they will not be seeking any payment from the receivers of Tachikawa Forest Products ahead of the preferential payment for Tachikawa’s former workers.

Earlier this week, Tachikawa workers had received letters from the receiver Kordamentha notifying them that their payments would be held up because of a legal challenge by a forestry company.

Robert Reid said that he had also received an update today from Kordamentha that the issues with the workers’ payment of wages, redundancy and holiday pay are being progressed, which may mean that payment can be made before Christmas.
