The Sudima Breakfast Club served up more than 1500 meals for hungry students

Sudima Hotel Group Australasia has joined forces with a local Rotorua Primary school, Kawaha Point School to establish a Breakfast Club for students.

School Principal Andrew Sinclair identified that a number of students were coming to school without having had any breakfast which was having a very negative impact on their learning.

Principal Sinclair mentioned his idea to Sudima Lake Rotorua General Manager Gert Taljaard and within a couple of days the Breakfast Club was established.

During the past school year the club has served more than 1500 breakfasts to hungry students before school each morning and the effect on students’ achievement is being noticed and appreciated by teachers.

“Even though there are a number of initiatives from food suppliers available to schools, we jumped at the idea of a local company supporting our club. The hotel not only provides us with the ability to feed these kids, but also provides a variety in menu, which is essential in order to keep the kids happy, said Principal Sinclair.

Owner of the Sudima Hotel Group, Sudesh Jhunjhnuwala says his team is proud to be a part of such an initiative where we can really make a difference to kids learning and development.

“It underlines our company’s commitment to the communities in which we operate our hotels,” he said.

The Breakfast Club will continue for students through 2014. We have set the foundations in 2013 and Sudima Lake Rotorua is committed to ensuring children have that vital first meal at the beginning of each day.
