Vodafone brings 4G to Rotorua
Vodafone is continuing its rollout of superfast 4G mobile technology to provincial New Zealand today, with the launch of 4G in Rotorua.
Vodafone’s 4G network is up to 10 times faster than standard 3G services*, allowing customers to stream, download, upload, browse and game faster than ever before. On 4G, customers can load web pages instantly, load apps at lightning speed, and upload and download attachments, books and music in seconds.
4G is available today to 94.8 percent of Rotorua’s population, allowing customers to access mobile internet speeds typically experienced only in major urban areas.
Matt Williams, Vodafone Consumer Director, says 4G is changing the way we use our mobiles.
“Our 4G launch over 12 months ago marked a new era for mobile users. Today, Vodafone’s 4G is available to over 1.54 million Kiwis, allowing consumers and businesses to do much more, faster, on the move. The arrival of 4G at Rotorua is a major milestone for the area. Now residents and visitors can enjoy the same experience when strolling along Memorial Drive, watching a game at Rotorua International Rugby Stadium or Fenton Park race course.
“Rapid adoption is being driven by the widespread availability of the service – which now reaches 37 locations around New Zealand – including Rotorua – as well as the introduction of affordable and innovative pricing plans.
Matt continues: “And we’re not slowing down. This year, our network priority is to deliver the benefits of superfast mobile to more of New Zealand – and innovative ways for our customers to make the most of their 4G experience.”
4G goes live in Invercargill, Gisborne and Tauranga in March, and will be live in Napier, Hastings, Nelson, Dunedin and Whangarei by the end of April.
Kiwis wanting to experience the speed of 4G will need a 4G-capable device with the latest software, a qualifying plan and be in a 4G coverage area. The device seamlessly switches to Vodafone’s next fastest 3G speeds when customers leave the 4G coverage area.
Vodafone offers the largest range of 4G-capable devices at a range of price points – 25 now, including the recently launched BlackBerry Q5 and Apple iPad Air. Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung GALAXY S5 coming soon.
