Queenstown, New Zealand: Luxury lodge Blanket Bay has again received a prestigious accolade – named as one of the world’s Top 20 International Hideaways in the famous Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report.
Blanket Bay, near Glenorchy, was ranked 16th in the just-released 2014 list of favourite hotels, resorts and lodges, as voted by Hideaway Report readers. The Hideaway Report is an internationally-recognised source of information about luxury travel.
The Andrew Harper website describes Blanket Bay as a “splendid sanctuary along the shores of Lake Wakatipu with a majestic backdrop of snowcapped peaks; a scenic 45-minute drive from Queenstown”.
New Blanket Bay General Manager Brent Hyde says the award rightfully belongs to the Blanket Bay team under the direction of previous General Manager Philip Jenkins, but he’s delighted with the continued recognition of the outstanding property.
“We are thrilled to again be voted among the world’s best resorts by travellers themselves. It is our spectacular lakefront location on one of the world’s top 10 scenic drives, proximity to the greatest activities in the Southern Lakes, luxury facilities and friendly and intelligent service that makes us the region’s best alpine escape. Blanket Bay’s dedicated team constantly strives for excellence at our luxury resort, which continues to ensure our premier reputation,” Hyde says.
Blanket Bay is one of only three New Zealand luxury lodges to appear on this year’s Top 20 International Hideaways list. Taupo’s Huka Lodge and Christchurch’s Otahuna also feature. The New Zealand properties join some of the world’s most celebrated hideaways.
This is the third time Blanket Bay has been voted into the Top 20, previously making it on to the list in 2010 and 2011.
Blanket Bay is regularly awarded top accolades, reaffirming its status as an internationally-renowned luxury lodge. Awards over the past 15 years include being named the World’s Ultimate Escape by the UK Sunday Times Magazine, the Best New Zealand Lodge in 2011 by the Australian Hotel Management Publication and several times taking the title of Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report’s Best Hotel Under 50 Rooms category.
