Seismic Shift in Radio Landscape - Mediaworks Wins Auckland for the First Time, Further Extends National Lead as NZME Loses Audience

MediaWorks has overtaken rival NZME (formerly TRN) in Auckland for the first time, and increased its nationwide lead with a record-breaking result.*

MediaWorks Radio Chief Executive, Wendy Palmer says: “We have just come through one of the biggest six months of change the radio industry has witnessed. The shift in the overall landscape was is driven by uniform success across the company’s family of radio brands, including the biggest ever audiences recorded for RadioLIVE, The Sound, The Breeze, George and Kiwi FM.^

The standout success again this survey was The Edge, which has now been the #1 radio network in New Zealand for five consecutive years,^ and launched a TV channel in July. The Edge grew its number of listeners to 465,300, well ahead of the next music station which dropped to 344,600 listeners.^

In a spectacular result at the national level, MediaWorks grew to a 56.6% share of the all-important 25-54 demographic, while NZME dropped to 31.9%.*

MediaWorks’ total nationwide share grew to 49.1%, while NZME’s dropped to 40.6%.*

MediaWorks now has a 49.6% share of the Auckland 25-54 demographic, compared to NZME’s 33.8%.*

MediaWorks has grown its total share of the Auckland radio market to 42.9%, while NZME dropped to 41.6%.*

Other highlights include:

• The Edge is the #1 Radio Station in New Zealand, with 465,300 listeners.^
• The Rock has the #1 Station Share for Men aged 10 and over.*
• RadioLIVE grew its national audience by 27% with growth across all day parts.^
• More FM is now #1 with females 25-54 nationwide and has the largest breakfast music audience in the country.*
• The Breeze had the highest national audience in the station’s history,^ and continues to be the #1 music station in Wellington.*
• The Sound recorded its best results ever in Auckland and nationwide, and is the #1 station for 35-59 year-olds.*
• Mai FM had an outstanding launch into the Hamilton market, and grew its audience in Auckland and nationwide.^
