Contiki’s Youtube RoadTrip Reached Millions Worldwide

Contiki’s Youtube RoadTrip Reached Millions Worldwide

Travel experts Contiki’s third annual YouTube series The RoadTrip (www.contiki.com/roadtrip) received 21.4 million views during the 10-day trip and the following two weeks.

The RoadTrip was bigger than ever with 13 of the world’s hottest YouTubers creating 90 pieces of original content whilst on a Contiki trip through Spain, France and Italy. New Zealand’s own Shannon Harris, Shaaanxo, was on the trip along with popular YouTubers like Prank vs. Prank, Anthony Padilla from SMOSH and iiSuperwomanii. The YouTubers took part in a daily video series hosted on the Contiki YouTube channel.

2.9 million minutes of videos were viewed during the 10-day trip modified from Contiki’s Mediterranean Highlights.

Contiki Group Marketing Director Alexis Sitaropoulos says The RoadTrip is an organic avenue for Contiki to promote travelling to 18 – 35s.

“In order to keep things authentic, the YouTubers are simply asked to create original, unscripted content whilst on the trip – the opinions and experiences are entirely their own and those experiences are real testimonials of what a Contiki trip is all about. It’s the type of stuff they’d already be sharing with their audiences, but in a really cool destination and with other content creators,” he says.

The unscripted content was hosted on the YouTubers channels and Contiki’s own channel. Together this gained 21.4 million views throughout the course of the trip and the several weeks following, making this to most successful Roadtrip to date.

“The RoadTrip has proven year upon year to be an effective way of speaking directly to our target audience of 18-35s, and this past trip through the European Riviera has illustrated that in spades,” says Sitaropoulos.

“With no advertising spend put behind it, The RoadTrip 2014 delivered a media value worth 567% more than its cost. Even more significant is the quality of those views – it was original content viewed by the loyal fanbases of YouTubers rather than targeted advertising from a brand, which is worth its weight in gold,” he says.

Since the YouTube series Contiki booking enquiries regarding the featured trip are up 44% worldwide.

The entire Roadtrip 2014 series is available to view on the Contiki YouTube channel. The RoadTrip 2015 is currently in the planning stages with a new group of popular YouTubers.
