Mitre 10 MEGA Manukau named Top Shop

Mitre 10 MEGA Manukau has won the award for Auckland’s best large format store in the 2014 Top Shop Retail Excellence Awards.

The Large Format Retail Award recognises stores predominantly operating a self-service model and includes the total range of large-scale operations, such as supermarkets, department stores, service stations and garden centres.

Competition was tough, but the Mitre 10 MEGA Manukau team was delighted to take out the award, said General Manager Nick Smith.

“This is a fantastic success to have all our hardworking team members recognised for the effort they put in,” Mr Smith said.

“When we opened the store, we hired half our employees through Work and Income New Zealand to help jobseekers into new roles. Many of our new recruits had little or no retail experience, but just two years down the track, we’ve become retailers of the year and that success really speaks to their hard work.

“We’re committed to our customers and our community and that shows through in our dedication in customer service training. I want to congratulate the team here at the store for their continued efforts and thank them for all their hard work.”

The Top Shop Retail Excellence Awards are run by the New Zealand Retailers Association, which sends mystery shoppers to competing stores and branches across the country to judge customer service and store presentation.

Mitre 10 MEGA Manukau employs 65 people and is servicing the increasing demand from growing lifestyle communities in Clevedon and Alfriston as well as supporting trade and retail customers in Manukau.

Situated on Lambie Drive, the 10,700sqm store offers huge product variety at the price customers have come to expect of New Zealand’s most trusted hardware brand.

“Home improvement is a big part of New Zealand’s culture,” Mr Smith said. “DIY is in our DNA and the Mitre 10 MEGA format really meets the needs of those getting stuck into a job.”
