The 2014 New Zealand Law Awards were held in Auckland last night, and Russell McVeagh has picked up awards across the entire spectrum of deal categories in New Zealand.

The firm won both M&A Deal of the Year and International Deal of the Year for its work advising Beijing Capital on its acquisition of the New Zealand assets of Transpacific Waste Management. This transaction, led by Russell McVeagh partner Mei Fern Johnson, was valued at $950 million and was the largest acquisition by a Chinese company in New Zealand ever.

The firm also won Consumer, Media and Tech Deal of the Year for its work on the MediaWorks sale and debt restructuring, and Capital Markets Deal of the Year for advising Meridian Energy on its 2013 IPO.
