Consumers Champion Kiwi Brands In Fairtrade Awards
Kiwis championed Fairtrade Certified products this October, by voting for their local favourites; Whittaker’s 5 Roll Refined Fairtrade Certified Creamy Milk Chocolate (Large Category), All Good’s Fairtrade Bananas (Medium Category), and Bennetto Natural Foods’ Drinking Chocolate (Small Category). The large number of votes in support of Whittaker’s, All Good Organics and Bennetto Natural Foods shows that Kiwi consumers respond to the ethical approach of these well-loved Kiwi brands.
Now in its third year, the Fairtrade Awards ran for two weeks and featured 27 leading Fairtrade Certified products. New Zealanders were asked to champion their favourite products by voting for them online and joining in the conversation on social media.
The winning businesses are delighted with the results. Whittaker’s Brand Manager Jasmine Currie said: “Winning the award for the third year in a row is a fantastic achievement and we are thankful for the continuous support we receive from our Whittaker’s Chocolate Lovers. We look forward to working with Fairtrade to extend the certification to other varieties in the future, as the reliability of supply continues to improve.”
Founder of Bennetto Natural Foods, Lucy Bennetto said: “Bennetto Natural Foods is proud to be part of Fairtrade, as a system that focuses on supporting producers. We are absolutely blown away to be receiving the Fairtrade Product Award for Small Business.”
Co-founder of All Good Organics, Chris
Morrison said: "Kiwi consumers have rallied behind our truly
ethical bananas and it’s great to see certified Fairtrade
products being part of consumers’
everyday food
basket."
“We congratulate these exceptional winners who show that it is possible to source their products fairly, be successful, and have a life changing impact on farmers and workers in developing countries. We are delighted that Kiwi shoppers are continuing to reward companies for their ethical leadership and we hope that this inspires more businesses to look at their own supply chains,” said Molly Harriss Olson, CEO, Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand.
