Record Ratings for First Live TV Broadcast of the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards
Almost half a million Kiwis tuned into FOUR last night for LIVE coverage of the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards (VNZMAs) and the Mentos Red Carpet Special, reaching the biggest television audience in VNZMA history.
Dai Henwood and Shannon Ryan hosted the first LIVE broadcast of the VNZMAs, which saw Lorde take home six Tuis, including Mentos Album of the Year, the Vodafone Single of the Year and The Edge Best Pop Album; David Dallas win Best Male Solo Artist and Best Urban / Hip Hop Album; and The X Factor NZ judge Stan Walker win the NZ On Air Radio Airplay Award and the Vodafone People’s Choice.
Last night’s VNZMA broadcast also attracted record average audiences of 102,800 total viewers (5+), and 66,800 in FOUR’s target 18-49 demographic.
The cumulative audience for the whole evening (including the red carpet) was 465,200 in total (5+), and 295,400 in the 18-49 demographic.
Previous broadcasts of the VNZMAs have been delayed. The LIVE broadcast allowed those watching at home to join the social media conversation generated by the thousands of musicians, fans and the wider music entertainment industry celebrating at Vector Arena. The official hashtag #VNZMA trended at #1 on Twitter and viewer comments on Twitter and Instagram were incorporated into the television broadcast in real time.
The Edge radio brand took listeners closer to the Awards than ever before, with Breakfast hosts Jay-Jay and Dom capturing pre-nerve jitters from nominees at the Pullman Auckland Departure Party, Drive hosts Sharyn and Clint hosting the Mentos Red Carpet on FOUR and the Night Show’s Marty and Steph joined LIVE backstage during the VNZMAs by the winners and performers.
The Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards is owned and hosted by Recorded Music NZ and produced for Recorded Music NZ by J&A Productions Limited.
The television broadcast was produced by MediaWorks TV and broadcast LIVE on FOUR, with an encore screening on Saturday 22 November at 10.30pm on TV3. It is available on MediaWorks video ondemand service, 3NOW.
