November Records Tumble As We Race Towards the Strongest Year on Record
David Crawford, Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Industry Association says “With one month of 2014 to go, more new commercial vehicles have been sold year to date than for any previous year. The previous highest year for new commercial registrations was 2013 with 30,881 units sold. 2014 year to date 33,920 new commercial units have sold, which is 19.2% (5,464 units) ahead of this time in 2013.”
“Another record to tumble is November total new vehicles registrations, which were 11,176 units, up 788 units (8%) on November last year. The previous best November on record was 2013 when 10,388 units sold. Year to date there have been 117,758 new vehicles sold, which is an increase of 13,237 units (13%) on this time last year” said Mr Crawford.
Passenger vehicles registrations of 8,063 units during November, were up 610 units (8.2%) on November 2013, and is the best November since 1984. Commercial vehicle registrations of 3,113 were up 178 units (6.1%) on November 2013 and is the highest November since the MIA started keeping records in 1981.
Toyota was the overall market leader for the month of November with 22% market share (2,431 units) with Ford second on 12% (1,324 units) and Holden a close third also with 12% (1,322 units).
The Toyota Corolla was the top selling new vehicle model in November with 605 new registrations, followed by the Ford Ranger with 566 and the Toyota Hilux in 3rd with 560 registrations.
Toyota remains the passenger car market leader for the month of November with 21% share (1,708 units), with Holden second on 12% (987 units) and Ford third with 9% (695 units). Toyota was also the commercial vehicle market leader with 23% share (723 units) followed by Ford at 20% (629 units) and Holden third at 11% (335 units).
The Toyota Corolla was once again the top selling passenger model with 8% market share (605 units), followed by the Toyota Yaris on 4% (340 units) and the Toyota RAV4 also on 4% (295 units).
The Ford Ranger retained its position as the monthly top selling commercial model for October with 18% market share (566 units). The Toyota Hilux was a close second also with 18% market share (560 units). This was followed by the Holden Colorado at 10% (322 units). Year to date the Ford Ranger continues to stretch its lead as the top selling commercial model with 17% market share (5,626 units) followed by the Toyota Hilux, with 16% market share (5,336 units), a lead of 290 units.
The sale of sports utility vehicles continues to be the strongest selling segment with 28% of all vehicles sales in November (29% year to date), followed by pick-ups/chassis-cabs with 20% and small passenger cars at 18%.
“The Motor Industry Association expects total new vehicle registrations to top 125,000 units for 2014, with the previous best year being 1984 when 123,247 new vehicles were sold” said Mr Crawford.
