The Warehouse Goes Crackers for KidsCan

The Warehouse Goes Crackers for KidsCan

The Warehouse stores throughout New Zealand have sold an incredible 99,166 KidsCan Christmas crackers during their annual appeal to support New Zealand children living in poverty.

Just over $205,000 was generated from the crackers sold in stores along with further donations during November and December 2014. This is the largest amount raised since the Christmas cracker appeal started eight years ago.

The Warehouse Executive General Manager of Community and Environment, Paul Walsh was thrilled with the results of the fundraiser.

“The Warehouse is committed to supporting the community and enhancing the lives of families and young people, so we are really pleased that our stores and our customers have got on board with this appeal and together have made such a generous donation.

KidsCan is a hugely important asset to thousands of children around New Zealand and this money will go a long way in ensuring they can continue to keep up their great work.”

Funds raised will be used to support the expansion of KidsCans “Health for Kids” programme which provides prescription medicine for children whose families are unable to meet the cost of items, along with early intervention screening, treatment and education around health issues which are prevalent in the schools supported by KidsCan.

KidsCan CEO and Founder Julie Chapman was astounded with the amount The Warehouse stores raised.

“This year we are expanding our “Health for Kids” initiatives in high needs areas throughout New Zealand. Many of the children we support do not get to the doctor when they are sick, because their parents do not have transport, can’t afford the cost of travel and/or prescription medicine.

“This amazing fundraising support from The Warehouse will assist KidsCan in ensuring children get the health intervention and medicine they need with the aim being to catch illness when it occurs and prevent it from becoming more serious.”
