Regional Economic Scoreboard
March 2014
Quarter
Canterbury holds off Auckland again to
take out the top spot in the latest ASB/Main Report Regional
Economic Scoreboard.
The earthquake rebuild is a dominant
theme, but across all the measures, Canterbury remains near
the top of the pack.
Around the regions spending is
supported by firm consumer confidence, ongoing improvement
in the labour market, cheaper petrol, as well as high
tourist and permanent migration numbers.
Low mortgage
rates have also been a boost to consumer confidence, and
have helped maintain upward pressure on house prices,
particularly in Auckland and Christchurch.
The full report
is attached and available online.
