Fisher & Paykel Innovations Receive Top International Design Award
Auckland, NZ –
27 February, 2015: Fisher & Paykel, New Zealand’s award
winning appliance brand, has received further international
recognition for its innovation in design adding another two
iF Design Awards to its list of successes.
For over 60 years an iF Design Award has been a mark of design excellence worldwide. In 2015 the internationally-recognised design awards programme attracted 4,783 entries from 2,102 participants based in 53 countries. The winners were chosen by a 53-member jury comprised of experts from around the world who convened in Hamburg in late January.
This year the iF International Design Forum honoured Fisher & Paykel’s Gas Flush on Steel cooktop and The Kitchen Tools website. The Gas Flush on Steel cooktop, which goes on sale in New Zealand April 2015, is the second Fisher & Paykel appliance to win in the Product design category. In 2010, Fisher & Paykel’s Cool Drawer™ Multi-temperature Drawer was bestowed the coveted award.
The Gas Flush on Steel cooktop was conceived after observing that customers love gas but find traditional gas cooktops intrusive when looking across the bench top. The resulting innovation delivers a high performance product that is recessed into the kitchen bench for an uncluttered look. Cast-iron box trivets provide a safe and stable cooking surface, perfect for sliding pots and pans.
“An iF Design Award for our Gas Flush on Steel cooktop is yet another recognition of Fisher & Paykel’s design philosophy,” says Mark Elmore, Fisher & Paykel Head of Design. “By understanding our customers – the way people use kitchens and appliances, how they cook and eat – our design team discover insights that make us rethink appliance design. The Gas Flush on Steel blends an elegant, minimalist aesthetic with design for durability and is a testament to the world class work of our Dunedin design team.”
All Fisher & Paykel products are designed at one of two New Zealand design centres in Auckland or Dunedin.
Fisher & Paykel’s The Kitchen Tools website was also recognised with a win in the Communication design category. Developed by Fisher & Paykel and Alt Group, the website was developed to provide design solutions and support for architects, designers and specifiers.
“Originally designed for architects and designers, the tools and content on our The Kitchen Tools website are aimed at professionals, but consumers can also find galleries of how our appliances have been used for their own design inspiration,” said Mark Elmore.
Fisher & Paykel’s award winning Gas Flush on Steel cooktop and The Kitchen Tools website will be featured in one of three special shows in the iF design exhibition Hamburg. The iF design exhibition Hamburg is a permanent exhibition located in the centre of Hamburg’s HafenCity.
