DLA Piper New Zealand appoints new CEO

DLA Piper New Zealand appoints new CEO

DLA Piper New Zealand, the first global business law firm operating in New Zealand, has appointed Kevin Hall as its new Chief Executive Officer. He replaces Hugh Caughley, who is retiring after nearly five years with the firm and over 42 years in business.

Kevin returns to New Zealand fresh from his role as Chief Operating Officer of Dubai-based law firm Al Tamimi & Co, which he led through significant growth and development to become the largest law firm in the Middle East.

DLA Piper New Zealand Chairman Martin Wiseman says: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Kevin as CEO. He brings a mix of practical commercial skills and extensive experience in building and developing organisations for growth, critical to supporting DLA Piper’s global and domestic operations.”

John Weber, Managing Partner, Australia, at DLA Piper added, "Kevin is a great fit for DLA Piper; he has an appreciation of what we want to achieve globally as a business. I have confidence that he will lead our existing and future people in New Zealand in a way that supports and helps deliver our vision to be the leading global business law firm.

"Kevin was with the Dubai based Al Tamimi & Co from 2007 to 2014, during this time the firm grew to 15 offices throughout the United Arab Emirates and Gulf region, growing staff numbers to more than 550.”

As a chartered accountant with a background in the New Zealand finance sector, Kevin’s previous roles include Finance Manager with Trust Bank.

His first foray into executive management and into the legal services sector was in Auckland with one of the local law firms which he led as CEO for 10 years prior to moving to Dubai.

Kevin Hall says: “It is exciting to return home to lead DLA Piper not only as the first global law firm operating in New Zealand, but one that is at the forefront of delivering legal services in our globally connected world.

“I am looking forward to working closely with the New Zealand team to build DLA Piper’s regional and global footprint and share my industry knowledge and expertise to further the success of the firm."
