AA disappointed with Kia Carnival 4 star ANCAP safety rating
In a head on collision the newly released V6 Kia
Carnival could potentially cause serious injury to
passengers, according to the latest ANCAP safety ratings,
which grades the 2015 model of the people mover with only 4
stars.
The Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) is Australasia’s leading independent vehicle safety rating programme.
The ANCAP frontal offset
crash revealed a heightened risk of serious injury to the
legs and feet of the driver. There was excessive movement of
the park and foot brake pedals and significant footwell
deformation. Dash components were also a potential source of
injury to the knees.
AA General Manager Motoring Services Stella Stocks says manufacturers need to be more mindful of what vehicle safety entails, and it begins with having a sound structure.
“The Carnival is designed to be a family car, but doesn’t offer the best family protection. In a crash, both front occupants face the potential of serious injury,” Ms Stocks says.
ANCAP has published
crash test results for a wide range of passenger and light
commercial vehicle makes, models and variants sold in
Australia and New Zealand since 1992. It is supported by all
Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian
Government, the New Zealand Government, all Australian state
governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission,
NRMA Insurance and the FIA foundation.
