TUANZ welcomes mobile wallet innovation in NZ

31st March 2015
MEDIA RELEASE - TUANZ
TUANZ welcomes mobile wallet innovation in New Zealand

The announcement this morning of SEMBLE, New Zealand’s own mobile wallet coming only 5 months after APPLE launched their proprietary solution in the USA has been welcomed by TUANZ. “The launch today of contactless payment using your smartphone is a great sign of how New Zealand companies can make use of the new capabilities in telecommunications and provide world leading solutions for consumers” said Craig Young, TUANZ CEO.

SEMBLE launched today and the app is immediately available on the more than 1million capable Android mobile phones already in the hands of New Zealanders. It is backed by all three mobile network providers (SPARK, 2degrees and Vodafone) and two of our largest banks, ASB and BNZ. “We believe that the key to successful innovation in our market is for competition to be rigorously pursued at the service level, while as much infrastructure sharing takes place behind the scenes” Mr Young said. “Its in these collaborative approaches that we as a small country can make the most of the capital that we have available for investment.”

TUANZ welcomes the launch and looks forwards to seeing it develop further into other retails sectors including travel and transit later in the year.
