WOOL FIRM DESPITE STRONG DOLLAR

New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that despite a stronger New Zealand dollar compared to the last sale on 1st April the 10,600 bales on offer were firm to dearer, with 83 percent sold.

The weighted indicator for the main trading currencies was up 1.27 percent. Mr Dawson advises that Fine Crossbred Fleece and Shears were firm to 2 percent dearer. Coarse Crossbred Full Fleece and Shears were firm to 1 percent dearer.

Finer First Lambs Fleece remained firm with 30.5 micron and coarser tending buyers favour. Good style short oddments eased slightly with poorer styles remaining firm.

Steady competition with China, Western Europe and Australasia principals, supported by India, Middle East and the United Kingdom.

Next sale on 16th April comprises approximately 6,000 bales from the North Island.
