SOUNZ Executive Director Julie Sperring resigns

SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music today announced the resignation of Julie Sperring, Executive Director, who after 5 successful and busy years with the organisation is leaving to explore opportunities overseas,

“The journey I’ve been on with SOUNZ over the past five years has been deeply rewarding. I have been truly inspired by composers, performers, presenters and teachers dedicated to creating and promoting NZ music with the greatest integrity. I’ll leave SOUNZ confident that it is well-placed to continue championing our music with secure funding from Creative New Zealand, a strong place in the musical infrastructure and an excellent team of motivated and talented staff."

SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand music is home to a diverse and vibrant collection of information, scores, recordings and film of New Zealand music and performances. Creative collaborations with partner organisations such as the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Radio New Zealand Concert, APRA and NZ On Air highlight the organisation’s ongoing growth and development through events and projects that promote New Zealand music to national and international audiences.

From 2015 SOUNZ has received increased Creative New Zealand funding as a leadership organisation working to champion New Zealand music.

Elizabeth Kerr, Chair of the SOUNZ Board of Trustees said, "Julie has provided excellent leadership to the work of SOUNZ as the organisation has taken an increasingly pro-active role in its work. The music of New Zealand composers is now frequently heard from our concert platforms, as demonstrated this week as New Zealand marks the Anzac centenary, and SOUNZ can take pride in the increased opportunities now available to composers to be published, recorded and broadcast."

SOUNZ will begin a recruitment process for Ms Sperring’s successor immediately to ensure continuing strong leadership for the organisation.
