Excitement and nerves are high for the
five finalists in contention for the print industry
Apprentice of the Year Award, with the winner to be
announced at the Pride In Print Awards on Friday 1
May.
Proudly sponsored by ICON Digital Printing Papers, the Apprentice of the Year Award celebrates the print industry’s top apprentices.
The finalists are: Brent Martens of Gallagher Group Ltd, Hamilton (Digital Processes for Print), Wayne Robinson of Huhtamaki Henderson, Auckland (Fibreboard Packaging), Drew Solakof of EIL, a division of Permark Industries Ltd, Christchurch (Printing - Screen), Rachael Smith of printing.com @ TGM Creative, New Plymouth (Digital Processes for Print) and Cheyne Lesa of Printlink, Wellington (Binding & Finishing).
The five finalists were announced at the inaugural Print Industry Training Graduation in Christchurch on 16 April. The second graduation takes place in Auckland on 22 April, with these events recognising the achievements of every industry training graduate of 2014.
The five Apprentice of the Year finalists completed a range of apprenticeship programmes in a diverse range of companies across New Zealand. They all demonstrate an excellent attitude, strong work ethic, enthusiasm for learning and pride for their work and business.
A wide range of information is used for selection purposes, including Account Manager nominations and feedback, assignment and workshop marks and other data held by Competenz, the Industry Training Organisation. Each finalist will attend an interview panel before the announcement of the winner on 1 May.
