Wellington’s Mojo Rising

Wellington’s Mojo Rising

Wellington’s office market rapidly emerging as a centre of choice

The regeneration of commercial office space in Wellington is booming with local corporates, central government and overseas investors leading the charge in the city’s new developments.

Government office redevelopments continue to increase with government employee numbers at an all-time high.

The Singaporean purchase of Grand Primmer Tower is the latest example of offshore investment in the capital.

Landlords are also now transforming aging landmarks to house government departments. Most notable is the $60 million transformation of the vacant Defence Headquarters in Stout Street, now the home of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. This has been one of the great success stories for the city creating more than 20,000 m2 of office space.

Wellington’s CBD has effectively expanded to include Willis Street owing to the Spark Central office development and the Chews Lane regeneration.

Several development schemes are also now well advanced and under consideration – including the ground-breaking and visually striking building on Newcrest’s site at 20 Customhouse Quay.
