Vector forges strong relationship with Tesla

lobal landmark event in the energy industry - Vector forges strong relationship with Tesla

The much anticipated landmark global launch of Tesla's Energy Storage, the Tesla home battery and commercial storage solution, saw a special contingent from New Zealand amongst the invitees.

Recognising the special relationship forged between Tesla and Vector, Vector's Chairman Michael Stiassny, CEO Simon Mackenzie and GGM Development Brian Ryan were invited as special guests to Tesla’s launch event in Los Angeles on Friday (NZT).

Vector has been working for some months to cement this special relationship with Tesla to provide the Tesla home battery to New Zealand.

"This is the start of a significant change in the energy industry. Tesla is the largest producer of batteries in the world, as well as the most cost effective, and this strong relationship with Tesla will allow us to take it to the next level across the country,” said CEO Simon Mackenzie.

Vector's Chairman, Michael Stiassny says that Vector had recognised some time ago that the energy business was destined for change and that Vector had prepared itself for this disruptive technology.

"Vector has been working with solar from its very early days, trialing the early PV arrays, using micro wind turbines and testing energy management systems. We recognise that customers are at the forefront of wanting choices in the way they produce, use and manage their energy and we will be providing that choice. The Vector/Tesla partnership will revolutionise the way the customers consume energy along with real network benefits for Vector and its customers."

Vector's CEO Simon Mackenzie says that the potential benefits for customers in New Zealand are considerable.

"It's an exciting and transforming time in the energy industry and we're proud to be able to make a difference in people's lives, allowing them independence in the way they want to source their energy needs. For some communities, communal renewables and storage systems make a great deal of sense. For those who don't own their own properties or who don't have the income to purchase such systems, the opportunities are opening up for them," he says.

Vector will release timings on the Tesla home battery and commercial storage solution in the next couple of months.
