School Safety Video winner announced


Avalon Intermediate School has been named the winner of Air New Zealand and Te Papa’s safety video competition.

The airline, world renowned for its unique take on the inflight safety video, partnered with Te Papa to encourage Kiwi kids to get creative and film their own version of an Air New Zealand safety video as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations.

Picked from nearly 70 entries, the Hutt Valley school has won a trip to Auckland to attend the airline’s 75th anniversary exhibition, developed in partnership with Te Papa and opening at Auckland War Memorial Museum later this year.

The winning video will also be screened at Te Papa in Wellington, where the exhibition Air New Zealand 75 years: Our nation. The world. Connected is currently on display.

Air New Zealand Head of Global Brand Development Jodi Williams says the judging panel has been impressed by the number ofhigh-quality entries received.

“Avalon Intermediate students displayed tremendous creativity, their entry was not only entertaining it also delivered on a key objective of engaging customers with important safety messages. A big congratulations to all those involved.”

Te Papa Associate Director Phil Smith says the team was impressed with the overall calibre of entries.

“We had so much fun watching these safety videos. Kiwi kids used their imagination to great effect and we were delighted to see so much creative talent on display.”

Technology prizes, provided by exhibition partner HP, were awarded to Tauranga’s Maungatapu Primary School which took out second place and Timaru’s Bluestone School named as the third place winner.
