Forman Insulation job losses in Taranaki and Auckland just the tip of the iceberg

Jobs will be lost across the country as Forman Building Systems amalgamates two of its subsidiaries in an attempt to cut costs and improve profits.

The job losses include 18 staff at the Taranaki branch and 4 in the Auckland branch of Forman Insulation, which are to be closed. More jobs will be lost in the six branches of Forman Commercial Interiors which are to be closed, covering Whangarei, Rotorua, Hamilton, Napier, Dunedin and Invercargill.

“We’re really disappointed that the company has refused to change their mind about these job losses, despite significant feedback from the union,” says Jen Natoli, the EPMU organiser for Forman workers in Taranaki.

“The Taranaki branch has been one of their more profitable in recent years, and now Forman will not be servicing the region at all.

“We now have to focus our efforts on making sure affected workers have options, like transferring to other branches or finding new jobs. Union members are relieved to have redundancy pay provisions in the union collective agreement. That pay will provide relief from financial uncertainty and stress.”

“These workers are highly-skilled tradespeople whose work is recognised internationally and highly valued by many local businesses. Unfortunately, some may end up leaving New Zealand to pursue secure work in Australia or elsewhere.”

EPMU members at Forman Insulation are entitled to redundancy compensation, including payment for unused sick leave, under the terms of their collective agreement.
