Airports Association welcomes draft report

Airports Association welcomes Commerce Commission’s draft report on Christchurch Airport pricing

Today’s release by the Commerce Commission of its draft report into information disclosure by Christchurch Airport demonstrates ongoing refinement of the economic regulation of the major airports, said Kevin Ward, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Airports Association (NZ Airports)

“The Commission has found the current charges at all three major airports are acceptable.

Airports are committed to setting charges fairly and with a view to maintaining the essential infrastructure on which tourism, travel and trade depend.”

Improvements in the clarity of Christchurch Airport’s price setting approach have been acknowledged by the Commerce Commission in today’s draft report. Technical issues around future pricing at Christchurch will be addressed in the submissions on this draft report and taken into account when prices are re-set in 2017.

“With each report by the Commission, the understanding of all the parties improves and airport responsiveness to the Commission’s views has been thoroughly demonstrated.

“Information disclosure for airports is proving its effectiveness, and rapidly maturing as an effective regulatory regime for the long term,” said Mr Ward.
