ADInstruments founder gets honour
ADInstruments founder appointed Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit
ADInstruments are proud to announce that CEO Michael Macknight has been appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to science.
Macknight is the founder of Dunedin based ADInstruments and the inventor of the PowerLab. He has dedicated 30 years of his life to building a global business that is internationally regarded. ADInstruments employs over 200 staff in thirteen locations around the world and assists thousands of researchers and medical professionals.
Macknight admits that he finds the honour a little overwhelming.
“It’s a huge honour. We tend to keep our head down, focusing on the business and the development of the products. When something like this comes along it shines a light on the achievements of a whole team of amazing people who’ve been involved in the process. It’s very humbling”.
PowerLab is used by organizations worldwide including Roche Bioscience, Toyota, Shiseido, Mayo Clinic, Human Genome Project, Pfizer, Lockheed Martin and the International Space Station.
Macknight has made a significant contribution to the fields of science, education and research. Internationally, he is widely regarded as a leader in his field. He is also an advisor for the University of Otago Applied Science Department.
Macknight has developed a range of high quality equipment for use by an exceptionally demanding global clientele. He has been successful at reaching international markets including the USA, however he has always been very conscious of the barriers developing nations face when it comes to research and education. Under his direction ADInstruments actively supports developing scientific communities by producing support material in a wide range of languages including Chinese, Portuguese, and Arabic, and adapting the offering to give customers the best experience in their country.
Macknight has given freely of his time to support the activities of the Dunedin City Council, local business groups, and the University of Otago. ADInstruments provides grants, awards and sponsorship to students, researchers and educators in the life science industry including: The Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN), University of Newcastle (Australia), LaTrobe University (Australia) and The National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), The American Psychological Society Early Career Innovative Educator Award, and the Crawfly Institute Scholarship.
