2 Cheap Cars refusing to back down over Honda advertising
New Zealand’s largest retailer of used cars is refusing to change the way it advertises some models of Honda vehicles it sells, in spite of threats of legal action from Honda New Zealand.
Among the vehicles 2 Cheap Cars imports second hand from Japan are what are known in this country as the Honda Jazz. In Japan the same vehicle is badged as a Honda Fit.
2 Cheap Cars General Manager Garry Moore says in order to be clear with potential buyers about what they might be buying, the Honda Jazz name is referred to in New Zealand advertising. There have been many dozens of billboards as well as print campaigns that have carried the ads.
“In spite of what Honda New Zealand says we are not trying to deceive people, actually it is quite the opposite. We are being very clear that these are imported Japanese used vehicles and if we called them a Honda Fit few people would know what vehicle we were talking about. We have had no complaints from any customer in the years we have been doing this,” says Mr Moore.
The vehicles are badged as Honda Fit.
2 Cheap Cars have taken legal advice from lawyers Wynyard Wood and through them have written back to Honda New Zealand saying that it will be continuing its advertising without change.
Garry Moore says 2 Cheap Cars will be carrying on with its business philosophy of selling affordable cars and putting customers first when it comes to pricing.
2 Cheap Cars is aiming to sell 10,000 used vehicles in New Zealand this year. The company has nine branches across New Zealand and will be opening it’s tenth branch in Tauranga this weekend.
