BNZ launches Closed for Good for 2015

•New Zealand’s single largest day of corporate volunteering
•Community groups can register their projects from today
•Manual labour and skill based submissions welcome

BNZ’s has today launched its sixth Closed for Good and is asking community groups and not-for-profits to put their hands up and register the projects they need help with.

Closed for Good will see the bank shut each of its stores on 2 September and up to 5500 BNZ staff will get stuck in, helping community organisations around New Zealand.

BNZ CEO Anthony Healy is proud of what Closed for Good – New Zealand’s largest corporate volunteering day – has achieved since its inception in 2009.

“Deciding to shut the bank for a day each year was a bold move by BNZ back in 2009. Since then BNZ staff have given almost 130,000 hours of their time working on Closed for Good. That’s more than $1.9 million of labour, going back to help community groups.

“But it’s so much more than that. We know these groups asking for help are often the engine rooms of our communities and make a huge impact in New Zealanders. So please – tell us how we can help,” he says.

Anthony said that although Closed for Good is best known for projects such as fence painting, planting trees or cleaning up public spaces, he was quick to encourage organisations to think broadly about how BNZ can help them.

“We really want organisations to look at all the skills our people have and can share. We can help you by running a financial literary or scam savvy workshop, or write a financial or marketing plan,” he says.

And he’s calling for even more organisations to submit projects this year:

“I want this to be the biggest and best Closed for Good yet. That’s a big goal when you think that last year, more than 3000 BNZ staff took part in 470 projects around New Zealand.”

Community groups are urged to register their project submissions by Friday 24 July 2015.

Closed for Good activity will happen on Wednesday 2 September 2015.
