Network summary for week ending 28 June 2015

Network summary for week ending 28 June 2015

Electricity

Seven house fires kept Vector crews busy during the week.

A meter board caught fire in Manukau during the week and our contractors isolated power to it for safety. Power was isolated to seven house/building fires during the week, in Muriwai, Papatoetoe Central, Mt Albert, Tamaki, Favona, Glen Innes and Ranui.

Mangere saw two car v pole incidents during the week, but both cases involved council street lights, not Vector poles. These sites were made safe by our crews, and referred to the council.

An emergency shutdown had to be carried out for emergency repairs to our network, after a car v pole in Orere Point. Five other car v pole incidents, in Onehunga, Birkenhead, Papatoetoe, Piha and Mt Roskill, saw no damage to our network.

Gas

An isolation of gas was requested to the site of a house fire in Hamilton during the week. An isolation of supply was requested by emergency services to a safety call they attended during the week, but Vector was stood down, due to a false alarm.

A smell of gas was investigated by our crews in Auckland Central, and repairs were carried out to our network in Hamilton during the week, after an instance of third party damage there.

Projects

Vector is installing around 700 metres of new 100mm steel gas pipeline along Hugo Johnston Drive in Penrose. Vector is working in with Warner Construction on this new pipeline, which will run directly into Carter Holt Harvey’s premises. Carter Holt Harvey, one of New Zealand’s largest paper recycling plants, uses steam in its recycling process, and thus requires a significant supply of natural gas. Additionally, AMS is installing a new metering station as part of the project.

The project has just begun, and will be completed around September.

Shorts

• Vector owns over 18,000 kilometres of overhead and underground lines in the greater Auckland area, and 12,752 of gas pipe lines, almost half of which supply gas to Auckland.

• Vector, proud sponsor of the Arena.
