Mainstreet Service Awards 2015

Friday 26 June 2015

Media release – CONFIDENTIAL UNTIL SATURDAY 27 JUNE

Mainstreet Service Awards 2015
This year’s winners for outstanding customer service

Once a year Mainstreet Wanganui sends undercover secret shoppers into the heart of the CBD to seek out the best customer service providers our town has to offer. They are tasked with finding the best and reporting back their findings so that Mainstreet Wanganui can reward their hard work. Their findings were due to be announced on Friday night at a fun awards ceremony to be held at Mud Ducks but unfortunately the recent flooding meant that this was no longer possible. As a result Mainstreet took the decision to put the awards ceremony money into a fund to assist flood damaged CBD businesses and visited each of the winners in person on Friday morning to bring them the good news. The Mainstreet Service awards are broken down into three categories:

1 Best Service Hospitality

2 Best Service Retail

3 Best Service Professional Services

Businesses are analysed on a range of customer experience attributes including signage, access, product display, staff presentation, time to serve and local knowledge. This year Mainstreet also changed the judging process so that businesses who wished to be visited by secret shoppers entered the awards and judging process. Businesses also chose which category they would like to be placed in.

The secret shoppers would like to acknowledge the runners up in each category:

For Hospitality: Manna Sushi

For Retail: Etcetera Fashion and Bridal

For Professional Services: AMI Insurance and The Cooperative Bank

The winners of the Mainstreet Service Awards 2015 are:

Best Service Hospitality: Stellar Restaurant and Bar

Stellar was the bridesmaid in this category last year, this year they are the bride. Under Peter Ellicott’s leadership they have gone from strength to strength with a nice restaurant atmosphere and comfortable bar plus pool and function rooms. Their commitment to good service is evident amoung all the staff and they work together as a great team.

Best Service Retail: Farmers

It would seem the new premises and recent move to St Hill Street has paid dividends for Farmers. The new store, with their entire product range on one site at last, has been a hit with locals. The layout and product presentation makes the store inviting and the staff have also stepped up their service in the new space making the new look farmers a pleasure to visit and shop in.

Best Service Professional Service: The Edge Beauty Studio

Most locals are familiar with The Edge, the team offer a variety of beauty services from their Victoria Avenue salon, which is always warm and inviting. The Edge’s attention to detail and service at every level and in all departments put them ahead of the competition in this category.

And the overall winner with the highest overall score was Farmers

“Congratulations to all our winners this year,” says Mainstreet Marketing Manager Elise Goodge, “They are all deserving, unfortunately the flood put a damper on our awards evening this year but our priority at this time is to help those businesses currently closed reopen as quickly as possible.”
