Record number of applications for Harcourts scholarship

Record number of applications for Harcourts NZ Real Estate Scholarship

A record 738 people have applied to be part of Harcourts’ ground-breaking New Zealand Real Estate Scholarship Programme™.

The programme is part of a drive by Harcourts’, New Zealand’s largest real estate company, to open up opportunities for people wanting to make the move into a real estate career.

Now in its fifth year, the Zealand Real Estate Scholarship Programme™, offers much more than just a chance to retrain.

Not only do the selected Harcourts scholars earn a good base salary, there are also bonus structures in place so they can boost that salary, based on commissions earned while they are still being trained. It means the scholars can study in a financially secure environment with no restrictions on how much they earn while they learn.

This year’s record 738 applications is a 130% increase on last year’s total of 320, and with more than 81 Harcourts locations nationwide offering the programme, the scholarship represents one of the best opportunities to make the move into a real estate career.

The programme is an initiative of Harcourts CEO Hayden Duncan, who says the record number of applications is a fantastic sign, not just that real estate is a healthy industry to be working in, but that there is increasing recognition of Harcourts as one of its leading players and an outstanding place to work.

“We give our scholars – and all our staff - the best tools and professional support available. Those successful applicants to the scholarship programme don’t just finish with a piece of paper that says they can sell real estate. They come out of the programme having been totally immersed in all aspects of the industry at a professional level.

“And the system is working. Many of our previous scholars from the previous four years have gone on to have incredibly successful careers,” Duncan says.

“We pride ourselves on finding and supporting the best sales consultants in the country, who will go on to offer our clients the best service. The surge in interest in this year’s scholarship programme is hugely gratifying as it means people recognise the high standards we represent.”

Scholarship applicants will all be contacted by Harcourts over the next fortnight.

But, Duncan adds that those who do not receive a scholarship in 2015 need not give up on a real estate career with Harcourts.

“Competition is tough this year, even though we have more scholarship places available than ever before. But even if an application is not successful it’s not the end of the road. We have other entry points into the business, such as regular career evenings where those interested in making the move can find out more about Harcourts and what we stand for.”
