Real estate figures reinforce busy winter
Real estate figures reinforce busy winter
“Once upon
time winter was the off-season for real estate, but not any
more particularly in Auckland,” says Geoff Barnett –
National Manager, Century 21 New Zealand.
His comments follow the latest release of REINZ statistics. They showed sales volumes for the month of June 2015 in the Auckland region rose by 21% compared to June 2014. The average number of days to sell was 29 days - an improvement of five days on June 2014. While in the same 12-month period the median price in the Auckland region increased by 26%.
“It’s fair to say our Century 21 offices around Auckland are generally much busier this winter than usual. Not only are we seeing more buyer inquiries but we’re seeing a few more listings. However we can’t get nearly enough listings to keep up with this relentless demand so we’re actively encouraging people to consider selling this winter and not wait for summer to roll around.
“The old adage used to be ‘don’t put on your house on the market in winter because no one’s looking’. Well in Auckland the open home and auction season now seems to be all year round.
“In fact plenty of agents are now recommending people put their house on the market in winter when supply is down but buyer demand remains insatiable, and it’s clear that demand is now spreading.
“As people get priced out of the central Auckland suburbs, our offices further afield in Auckland are experiencing more inquiries as are the likes of the Waikato as Auckland buyers head to the regions.
“Given the significant lift in Auckland sales volumes and the median house price this winter, and the fact that properties are selling that much quicker, it seems winter is the new summer when it comes to real estate in Auckland,” says Geoff Barnett.
