Mid and South Canterbury Region’s finest homes announced
A new build and a renovation in Timaru have been revealed as this year’s top Mid and South Canterbury homes, winning Supreme Awards in the Mid and South Canterbury Registered Master Builders 2015 House of the Year.
Lone Pine Building took out six regional awards with the Timaru home, including a Gold Award and category win for the PlaceMakers New Home $400,000 - $500,000 award, as well as the Mid and South Canterbury Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the 2015 House of the Year.
The company also won the Craftsmanship Award, Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and Outdoor Living Award.
Wilson Building Timaru was awarded the Supreme Award for the Mid and South Canterbury Registered Master Builders 2015 Renovation of the Year, as well as the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award, a Gold Award and overall category win for the SafetyMate Renovation Award over $500,000. The company also took home two Gold Awards and an overall category win for other properties.
The judges called Lone Pine Building’s winning build “a moderate sized house constructed to a very high standard.”
“This delightful home has been built with the floors stepping to follow a sloping site and sea views maximised by the clever design,” they said.
“The home has been crafted with care and attention to detail throughout.”
Wilson Building Timaru’s Renovation of the Year impressed the judges, who praised the restoration of this collection of buildings that were expanded and then joined together.
“This renovation was outstanding. Originally, the main house had shifted, dropped and the ceilings had moved. The builder pretty much stripped it down to the timber frames and put it back up again,” they said.
“The incorporation of stone, timber and the rebuild of the veranda along the front were all substantial and fantastic features of the renovation.”
The results were revealed at a gala dinner on Friday 10 July at Caroline Bay Hall in Timaru. The winning builders were recognised by members of the Mid and South Canterbury Registered Master Builders Association and members of the local building industry.
There were six Gold Award winners from the Mid and South Canterbury region which will now be eligible, alongside Gold Award winners from up and down the country to become the National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in September.
National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for Renovation of the Year and House of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.
The Awards are made possible through the support of PlaceMakers, Master Build Services, James Hardie, GIB, Nulook, SafetyMate, Carters, ITM, Plumbing World, Resene, Westpac and Mitre 10.
