Ethical Resourcing Model has international potential

Declan Clancy says new Ethical Resourcing Model has international potential

One World Resourcing’s Declan Clancy says his company’s Ethical Resourcing Model has the potential to be of benefit to migrant workers and employers worldwide.

One World Resourcing is an international human resource management company with operations in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and the Philippines.

In New Zealand it is piloting a new Ethical Resourcing Model to protect Filipino workers from exploitation.

Declan Clancy says the International Labour Organisation’s recent comments about the working conditions of migrant workers in the Arab region reflect global concern about their plight.

The ILO said a majority of migrant workers in countries such as Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are denied basic rights.

One World Resourcing director Louise Daly says the company’s Ethical Resourcing Model includes an exclusive new arrangement with Site Safe, which allows workers in the Philippines to be trained and issued with building and civil construction passports before they arrive in New Zealand.

Further, the Ethical Resourcing Model:

• Provides an open and transparent recruitment process for all stakeholders.

• Removes Filipino workers’ reliance on loan sharks in the Philippines (with extortionate rates of between 70% and 200% per annum) through a partnership with ANZ. This allows Filipino workers brought to New Zealand by One World Resourcing to open a New Zealand bank account and to start a credit history here.

• Ensures the workers arriving here are met in a culturally sensitive manner through a unique partnership and support structure with the Christchurch Migrants Centre.

• Works with accommodation providers to prevent tenant exploitation.

Site Safe, a national not-for-profit organisation, is dedicated to promoting a culture of health and safety in work, to prevent deaths and injuries in New Zealand's construction and related industries.
