Launch of new National Broadband Map

Today marks the launch of a new broadband map that will allow New Zealanders to see what broadband technologies are, or will be, available to them. The map was launched by Communications Minister Amy Adams at a ceremony today in Wellington.

Developed by NZRS Ltd, the operator of the .nz domain name space and service delivery subsidiary of InternetNZ, the broadband map is a consolidation of multiple datasets from network operators around the country. Jay Daley, CEO of NZRS Ltd, says “our thanks go out to the network operators who have contributed data to allow the creation of this incredibly useful service.”

NZRS Ltd is committed to keeping the data behind the broadband map up to date, and is working with network operators to close any information gaps that still exist.

The map shows which broadband technologies are available to a specific address or any physical location allowing New Zealanders to make an informed choice about what broadband technology they might use.

The map, available at http://broadbandmap.nz, is an extension of the public services already delivered by NZRS. These include http://ntp.net.nz,http://pgp.net.nz and the technical delivery of the .nz domain name space.
