New Qantas connection to Brisbane good news for Wellington

A new seasonal Qantas connection to Brisbane is a further indication of the growing strength of Wellington as a destination, says the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.

“The extra flights they will add to the Brisbane network over the busy summer months is great news,” says Chamber Chief Executive John Milford.

“This will bring even more people through the capital, as will extra flights they have added to their Melbourne and Sydney runs over summer.

“The Brisbane addition will also boost our international links as it will enable travellers to connect directly with flights to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Los Angeles.

“Airlines don’t add services without very good reason, so clearly they see strength in the Wellington market. This will be the fourth new international service this year out of the capital, after Jetstar added Melbourne and Coolangatta, and Fiji Airways added Fiji.

“We also had Jetstar recently adding a three-flights-a-week connection to Dunedin, which is estimated to add 56,000 seats a year to the 130,000 from its Australian routes.
“These extra services all offer more choice and will expose the city and region to more people which will help our economy.”
