Queenstown Marathon demand takes off

Media release

21 August 2015

Air New Zealand adds more seats as Queenstown Marathon demand takes off

Air New Zealand has increased capacity into Queenstown in response to strong registrations for the Air New Zealand Queenstown International Marathon on Saturday 21 November.

The airline will operate an additional 18 flights from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Sydney into Queenstown in the three days preceding the event to accommodate the high demand for marathon registrations. A similar number of extra flights are planned for after the event.

Air New Zealand Chief Sales and Commercial Officer Cam Wallace says despite only being in its second year, the high number of early Air New Zealand Queenstown International Marathon entrants are a firm indicator of the event’s popularity.

“Over 2,300 additional Air New Zealand seats into Queenstown will help cater for the more than 7,500 entrants who have already registered to run the variety of distances on offer in beautiful Queenstown.

“With over three months to go until the November 21 race, it’s fantastic to see so many people from around the country, and further afield, embracing what it is quickly becoming an iconic sporting event.”

The Air New Zealand Queenstown International Marathon has attracted entrants from around the world including Australia, China, North American, Hong Kong and Japan. More information can be found at www.airnzqueenstownmarathon.co.nz
