Partners Invited to Build Extended UFB Network

Partners Invited to Build Extended UFB Network
1 September 2015

The Request For Proposals (RFP) for the expansion of the Ultra Fast Broadband (UFB) initiative to at least 80% of the population has been issued by Crown Fibre Holdings (CFH). Bidders have until 28 October to submit a proposal.

The Government is expanding the UFB initiative to increase population coverage from 75 percent, providing minimum fibre broadband download speeds of 100 Megabits per second upgradeable to 1 Gigabit per second for households and 10 Gigabit per second for businesses.

“CFH is open to commercial models which bidders may propose to maximise UFB coverage within the Government’s available funding,” said CFH chief executive officer Graham Mitchell. “I encourage respondents to be innovative in their approach.”

The RFP lists towns up to an additional 7.5% in projected population coverage as at 2023, as well as areas which are on the fringe of the existing contracts for UFB coverage. Bidders can also nominate additional towns not listed in the RFP.
