More information will improve business decisions

The Sustainable Business Council has welcomed the release of the Government’s first Environment Report since 2007.

Executive Director Penny Nelson said:

“The comprehensive environment report is a step towards building a much clearer picture of where we need to do better in New Zealand.

“This is the first time since 2007 that the government has brought together a wide range of data sets to provide a much more rounded picture of the environment.

“Having a better understanding of our environmental trends across climate and atmosphere, air, land, fresh water and marine resources will be important for how businesses plan growth while managing their impacts.

“The information is not yet as reliable as it could be but we appreciate this is a significant step towards a much more comprehensive picture of our environment.

“We look forward to contributing to ongoing improvements which will help businesses make good environmental decisions.

“We welcome the move to make as much information as possible openly available.”
