James Cook Hotel partners with DOC

JAMES COOK HOTEL GRAND CHANCELLOR PARTNERS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION

The James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor has partnered with the Department of Conservation (DOC) to support the important conservation work they do throughout New Zealand.

The Department of Conservation is currently celebrating Conservation Week 2015 from the 1 – 8 November and the hotel has supported this by hosting the Associate’s function on the 2nd November and will be supporting the Pest-Fest event on the 8th November, a free event dedicated to providing information about New Zealand’s pest plants and animals.

To celebrate Conservation Week, the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor has introduced a new initiative to reward guests for ‘Going Green’. Guests who stay more than one night and choose not to have their room serviced will be rewarded with a $10 food and beverage credit per day to use during their stay. This simple choice can save the hotel approximately 35 litres of water per room by not having the bathroom cleaned and not having the towels and linen changed.

The hotel has been working with the Department of Conservation since August 2014 when they partnered up with DOC and the local iwi to lend a helping hand with the ongoing work they do at Matiu/Somes Island.

Over the past year, groups of enthusiastic employees from the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor have made numerous visits to the island to assist DOC and Taranaki Whānui with their dedicated work at Matiu/Somes Island. So far employees have assisted in a range of tasks from painting fences, weeding, clearing the tracks, as well as enjoying a great day out on one of Wellington’s ecological treasures.
