David Kennedy appointed as Chief Executive of Ngāi Tahu Property Ltd.
Ngāi Tahu Property Board Chair, Barry Bragg, is pleased to announce that David Kennedy has been appointed as Chief Executive of Ngāi Tahu Property.
“David Kennedy has significant experience in the property sector and has proven leadership skills to continue the development of Ngāi Tahu Property. David will oversee the potential growth opportunities to build our portfolio in the South Island and his expertise in the Auckland market ensures Ngāi Tahu Property will meet its strategic objectives,” said Mr Bragg.
Mr Kennedy will replace long serving Chief Executive Tony Sewell, who announced his resignation in July this year. Mr Kennedy was appointed General Manager – Auckland, for Ngāi Tahu Property in June. He was CEO of Eden Park Trust prior to that and was responsible for the Park’s $270M upgrade in preparation for the Rugby World Cup in 2011. Mr Kennedy spent eight years with the Sky City Entertainment Group including roles as GM Operations and GM Public Policy and Corporate Strategy. He was also CEO of the St. Lukes Group and CEO of Westfield NZ Shopping Centre.
“David was appointed after a widely advertised and rigorous recruitment programme was undertaken. There were many applicants and the appointment panel conducted a thorough interview process. David’s experience as a former director of Ngai Tahu Property for six years means that he has a good knowledge of the cultural values of our organisation and the tribe,” said Mr Bragg.
Mr Kennedy will begin his tenure as Chief Executive in the new year and he will be based in Ngāi Tahu Property’s office in Christchurch.
“It is an honour to be appointed to the role of Chief Executive at Ngāi Tahu Property and to be entrusted with leading the business going forward. This is a great opportunity and I look forward to developing the exciting projects we have in our portfolio in the South Island, as well as the progression of our operations in Auckland,” said Mr Kennedy.
Mr Kennedy has established an office for Ngāi Tahu Property in Auckland and this will be formally opened soon. A process to appoint a replacement for Mr Kennedy in the role of GM – Auckland for Ngāi Tahu Property will be undertaken in time. Tony Sewell will step down from his duties as Chief Executive at the end of this year.
